Exquisite lacquer for almost 300 years

There are many villages across Vietnam and, indeed, across East Asia making lacquer products. However, Duyen Thai lacquer village has a history of exquisite lacquer production stretching back nearly 300 years and have become famous for its talented, skillful, and creative artisans.

Eggshell, mother of pearl, and bamboo

Starting with basic designs and materials, gradually, the artisans, through research and experimentation, have introduced many new materials such as eggshell, mother of pearl, and bamboo into their lacquer production.

Au Lac lacquer products have a minimum of 14 layers

With time lacquer production techniques have also been improved. Traditional materials, along with gold, silver, and a range of extremely diverse paint colors are applied to create a minimum of 14 layers on all Au Lac lacquer products. This results in gorgeous and sparkling lacquer from these magical layers of color. The foundational color layer is instrumental as it transcends the upper color layers of gold and silver to create a symphony of reflected light and splendor.

Vietnamese lacquer is inspiring artists across Asia

Au Lac Designs has partnered with many talented artisan groups in the Duyen Thai craft village for many years and has seen how Vietnamese lacquer inspires artists across Asia with its unique beauty.
