Bat Trang Ceramics

Bat Trang ceramic village was formed over 500 years ago and continues to play a significant role in the preservation of the culture of Hanoi. After experiencing many ups and downs over the past five centuries, Bat Trang is now Vietnam’s largest supplier of ceramics.

Alluvium – a precious gift of nature

Vietnam has more than 14 ceramic villages across the country; however, Bat Trang is the most famous of these. Thanks to a precious gift of nature, the favorable terrain located right next to the Red River is filled with alluvium. Thus, Bat Trang clay from the banks of the Red River is ideal for making ceramic products, cracking ceramic glaze, and antique ceramics

Each piece is a work of art

The Artisans in Bat Trang are also famous for their painting skills. Each piece exhibits the Artisan’s passion – even though they have the same pattern – you still can feel the uniqueness of each piece. Some ceramic pieces require a few days or a few weeks to meticulously paint. Each ceramic piece contains the Artisan’s heartfelt intention to create not just a ceramic item but rather a work of art.

From generation to generation

The people of Bat Trang village have been earning their living by making ceramics for generations. Many people from other places have also moved to Bat Trang to learn this skill. All the ceramic workshops there are very enthusiastic about passing on the skill to others in the hope that successive generations will continue the traditional craft.

Au Lac Designs is partnered with many workshops in Bat Trang

We are very fortunate to work with family workshops that have now been passed down to the 3rd generation since cooperating with Au Lac Designs and know which workshops have the best skill for each type of ceramic.
