Nowadays, when I walk along some of Hanoi’s small lanes and alleyways, I still see many women of all ages working away knitting and crocheting. When I see the handmade crochet products made from the skillful hands of these grandmothers and mothers, it now warms my heart.

Because knitting and crocheting are easy to do from home, artisans receive the materials and designs and often complete the projects there. In addition, knitting and crocheting enable them to earn while caring for their children or elderly parents.

Fashionistas and interior designers everywhere have rediscovered crochet as an easy way to add quaint detail and bold or subtle color to the mix. Often, it’s just that little bit of nostalgia that crochet generates that makes all the difference to a finished piece.
